Nevada: Webster and Tyler Get Defense Verdict in Clark County

Hall Prangle & Schoonveld’s Casey Tyler and Ken Webster won a jury verdict on October 26 for Sunrise MountainView Hospital, Inc., in a negligence action filed in Clark County District Court (Nevada). On the date of the incident, Plaintiff was working at MountainView when, after a routine surgery, she was transporting dirty instruments to the soiled room on a ring stand that fell apart. As a result, the surgical trays spilled onto the floor, and allegedly caused her to fall and sustain injuries requiring permanent dorsal column nerve stimulator placement and a need for future fusion surgery. Plaintiff argued that the hospital was aware of such an equipment failure and did nothing to address its continued use. Among other allegations was the improper training of students and employees as to the proper methods for transport.

Las Vegas: Defense Victory for HPS

Partners Mike Prangle and Ken Webster successfully defended a Las Vegas hospital and its nursing staff against claims that a plaintiff suffered a severe neurologic injury and quadraparesis as a result of sodium and potassium overcorrection in a patient with hyponatremia. Plaintiff asked the jury for a combined total of $26.8 million in damages. After just over three hours of deliberation, the jury returned a unanimous verdict for the defense.
