Chicago: Kane and Lalmalani Successfully Defend Hospital Client Against $2-4M Negligence Claim

HPS partners Amy Kane and Sapna Lalmalani successfully defended their client, a Chicago-area hospital, against claims of negligence in relation to the removal of a drain following a distal pancreatectomy. The plaintiff sought $2-4M for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and loss of normal life. Kane and Lalmalani denied any negligence on the part of the hospital and argued that the plaintiff’s infection and sepsis were a recognized complication of the surgery. After approximately three hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict in favor of the defense.
