David specializes in various areas of healthcare litigation, particularly those matters involving catastrophic loss. Most of his cases involve brain-damaged infants, neurologically disabled adults, disfigured patients, and wrongful death claimants. He has also litigated and tried numerous other healthcare matters involving physician credentialing, medical device product liability, employment discrimination, and nursing home litigation. His experience also includes various transportation litigation matters including those involving aviation and maritime accidents. Notably, David has tried to verdict over 80 cases, most of which involve the defense of healthcare providers. The vast majority of those trials involved cases having seven-figure exposure with at least a dozen of them involving eight-figure demands.

Throughout his 25 year career, David has represented many local and national hospital systems, including HCA, Chicago Hospital Risk Pooling Program, Illinois Provider Trust, Resurrection Healthcare Corporation, Central DuPage Hospital, Edward Hospital, Provena Health, The University of Illinois Hospital, Evanston Hospital, St. Alexius Medical Center, and others. Although David's focus in recent years has been defending hospitals sued for matters involving catastrophic loss, he also represents individual physicians, although generally pursuant to a hospital-based program.

David has frequently been recognized by his peers for both his skills and accomplishments as a healthcare defense trial attorney. In 2007, he was inducted as a Fellow into the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers. Induction in that nationally based group is by invitation only and pursuant to a vigorous due diligence review process. Similarly, David was recognized by his peers, including the many plaintiffs' attorneys he has bested at trial, as one of the top 20 tort defense attorneys in all of Chicago. That recognition was formally sanctioned by the Chicago Lawyer magazine. Two other organizations, which identify the leading attorneys in any given practice area, namely the Leading Lawyer Network and Super Lawyer magazine, have honored David with membership. Those two organizations also base their nomination process on the recommendation of peers in the nominee's respective legal practice area.

In addition to being one of the founding fathers of HPS, David previously was the Department Leader of Lord Bissell & Brooks' Medical Litigation Department. As the senior active partner at HPS, David is dedicated to training the next generation of trial lawyers.
