Chicago: Hall and Lalmalani Provide Strong Defense for Chicago-Area Hospital and Achieve Not Guilty Verdict by Jury

In October 2016, HPS Attorneys David Hall and Sapna Lalmalani secured a defense verdict on behalf of their client, a Chicago-area hospital, following a two and a half week trial. Plaintiff alleged negligence and wrongful death arising out of a surgeon’s performance of a cholecystectomy, which plaintiff asserted led to the patient’s death approximately three months later.  The estate of the deceased patient asked the jury for $9.3 million in damages.  After deliberating for approximately three hours, the jury came back with a not guilty verdict on behalf of all defendants, as well as a finding that the physician was not the apparent agent of the hospital.
