Chicago: Hall and Luzio Secure a Defense Verdict in a Post-Surgical Infection Case
In June 2017, HPS attorneys David Hall and Krista Luzio secured a defense verdict for a Chicago area hospital located in the western suburbs. The plaintiff suffered permanent blindness as the result of a rare eye infection in the operative eye following an eye surgery. The infection was allegedly caused by negligent sterilization of instruments and negligent sterile technique during the eye surgery. Following a four-week trial, the plaintiffs asked the jury for $25M in damages. The Cook County jury returned a unanimous not guilty verdict in favor of all defendants after only 2 ½ hours of deliberations.
