Chicago: Hall and Luzio Secure Defense Verdict in Retrial of Spinal Cord Injury Case

In October 2018, HPS represented a Chicago-area hospital in the retrial of a high exposure case involving a Plaintiff who became quadriplegic following cervical spine surgery. The Plaintiff alleged that a nurse failed to timely recognize and communicate a change in blood pressure and mental status, thereby causing the plaintiff to become hypotensive, which led to the spinal cord injury. Our team, led by David Hall and Krista Luzio, argued that the nurse was attentive throughout her shift, appropriately assessed her patient, and the plaintiff suffered an unfortunate, but unpredictable complication from his surgery. The jury came back with a verdict of not guilty against all defendants for the second time.
