On February 21, 2015, a group of 45 HPS attorneys, family members and friends joined forces in their first off-site “Pay it Forward” event, organized by partner April Walkup. The event took place at Feed My Starving Children, a non profit organization in Libertyville, IL committed to feeding the world’s hungry children. Founded in 1987, FMSC has facilities throughout Illinois that provide space for groups and corporations to play a critical role in distributing scientifically developed and easy-to-prepare food blends to malnourished children around the world.
Team HPS worked in small, six-person assembly lines, where each individual had a responsibility to scoop soy, vitamins, beans or rice and seal the meal components in a package to be transported to a country in need. Other HPS team members taped and stacked boxes full of meals to be shipped on pallets.
In the hour and a half packing session, we used 3,000 pounds of rice and 3,000 pounds of soy to create the meals.
Together, HPS packed 158 boxes (just three boxes short of the 161 record) which will allow 94 children in Haiti to be fed for one year.
