Throughout her two decades of practice, Jacqueline Sharuzi has devoted herself to the defense of hospitals, doctors, dentists, long-term care facilities, correctional facilities and other corporations. Her broad skill-set has allowed her to defend diverse lawsuits alleging various forms of medical negligence, negligent hiring and supervision, premises liability, insurance coverage, product liability, battery, defamation and Section1983 claims.
From inception to trial, Jacqueline is an aggressive litigator. Her ultimate goal is a favorable resolution in the best interests of her clients. To accomplish that, she identifies weaknesses in her opponents' cases and pursues them through the use of targeted discovery, all while shoring up her clients' defenses.
Jacqueline has co-chaired dozens of high exposure cases to verdict in various counties in the greater Chicagoland area and Colorado. These verdicts include cases alleging catastrophic birth-related injuries, pediatric care, emergency room care, psychiatric care, and negligent hiring/supervision, to name a few.
Jacqueline is also a proficient writer, who firmly believes in pursuing dismissal of cases or allegations by way of motion practice, before they reach the courtroom. By keeping up-to-date with the relevant law, Jacqueline has successfully secured the dismissal of cases in their entirety through the use of appropriately timed motion practice.
While trials and verdicts are typically the barometer by which a litigator's career is measured, Jacqueline appreciates and identifies cases which merit prompt resolution, either by way of arbitration, mediation or settlement. By listening to the specific needs of each client, Jacqueline is able to effectively counsel her clients regarding their options on cases that warrant early resolution.
The needs of her clients have taken Jacqueline across the country to California, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas and Florida.
Jacqueline previously practiced in the Medical Litigation Department at Lord, Bissell & Brook, prior to joining HPS when the firm first opened its doors in 2002.
As a result of her work defending complex medical malpractice suits, Jacqueline was selected out of approximately 1,300 nominees across the state as one of the “Top 40 under Forty Attorneys” in Illinois in 2012.
Jacqueline was also elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates in 2012. ABOTA is a national organization of trial lawyers (plaintiffs and defense) formed for the purpose of fostering improvement in the ethical and technical standards of practice in the field of advocacy.
In addition, Jacqueline has been recognized as an Illinois “Super Lawyer” from 2013-2016, and 2018 - 2020. She was featured as one of the “Top Women Attorneys in Illinois” in 2013. She has also been recognized as a “Leading Lawyer,” a selection of lawyers who were most often recommended by their peers in statewide surveys.
As a member of the catastrophic trial team Jacqueline B. Sharuzi is available to practice in all of our offices and across the country, on a case by case basis.
