HPS Pop Tab Collection Drive Benefiting RMHC Becomes Personal: Tabs for Dominic

What started as an HPS “Pays It Forward” initiative in October 2017 became personal when the firm learned that Lindsay Scalise, a former long-time employee, and her family were hoping to deliver 1,000 pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House in Oak Lawn, Illinois, in honor of their son Dominic’s first birthday this past April.

The Scalise family utilized the services of their local Ronald McDonald House following Dominic’s birth. Ronald McDonald Houses around the country provide a “home away from home” for families with children hospitalized with complex medical issues at very little to no cost.

As a way for the Scalise family to give back to Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), the family partnered with local business, schools and libraries to organize a community-wide pop tab collection drive they called “Tabs for Dominic.” When the firm’s “Pays It Forward” Committee heard about the drive, the Committee decided to give HPS’ collected pop tabs (totaling five gallons) to the Scalise family to supplement their efforts. All the collected pop tabs will be recycled by RMHC’s local recycling partner and the value of the recycled aluminum plus a charitable match will be given to RMHC.

HPS recently learned that the Scalise family far-exceeded their original goal of 1,000 pop tabs and were able to donate 420 pounds, equaling more than 500,000 tabs, to the Oak Lawn Ronald McDonald House. The Scalise family also decided to continue collecting “Tabs for Dominic,” with a new goal of donating a total of 790 pounds, equivalent to one million tabs. HPS also committed to extending the firm's pop tab collection drive to help the Scalise family reach their ultimate goal!

HPS continues to look for ways to “Pay It Forward” to help the local communities where we work and live.
