Chicago: Prangle and Hosna Secure Defense Verdict on Behalf of Local Hospital Client
HPS attorneys Mike Prangle
and T.C. Hosna
secured a defense verdict today on behalf of their client, a Chicago-area teaching hospital. The case involved a woman who developed a massive pulmonary embolus (PE) following elective knee surgery, which resulted in her death. The patient’s family filed suit, seeking damages in excess of $11 million. The Plaintiff claimed that the medical team did not detect the PE, despite symptoms they believe had been communicated to the doctors and nurses. Prangle and Hosna argued that any such indicators had not been conveyed to the medical team and therefore that the medical professionals responded appropriately to the information available. After just three hours of jury deliberations, the jury ruled in favor of the defense.
