David’s journey to this esteemed recognition is marked by a distinguished career specializing in medical malpractice defense and various areas of healthcare litigation. After leading the medical litigation team at Locke Lord (then called Lord Bissell & Brook), David co-founded HPS in 2002. David has since established himself as a prominent figure in the legal community. His passion for trying cases has set him apart from his peers. David explains, “I have decades of experience trying these cases, and I think I've been able to utilize it as part of my personal brand to differentiate myself from other lawyers in the community. If you try more cases than most, that draws some favorable attention to you.
A graduate with high honors in Accounting from Michigan State University and a cum laude recipient of his law degree from the University of Michigan, David applies his versatile expertise to all matters he defends. From cases involving brain-damaged infants to wrongful death claims, physician credentialing, medical device product liability, and beyond, David’s legal expertise and dedication to his craft have earned him numerous accolades and distinctions.
A Fellow of the prestigious American College of Trial Lawyers, David’s accolades also include recognition as a Super Lawyer and a Leading Lawyer. He has been named one of the Top 20 Tort Defense Attorneys in the Chicago Region by Chicago Lawyer Magazine, and the Illinois Jury Verdict Reporter has recognized him as one of the state’s top defense trial attorneys.
For David, being selected as one of the Top 100 Lawyers is a humbling honor. Reflecting on his journey, he shares, “Despite my advanced years, it's still nice being recognized. You put a lot of time and effort into our craft, and we take it seriously.”
David’s unwavering commitment to his clients and his passion for trial work are evident. As he puts it, “When I am arguing cases in the courtroom, I feel like I’m making a difference, making a mark on the community, and doing something that most folks are not comfortable doing.”
