In Memoriam: Amy Kane
In Memoriam: Amy Kane
Chicago, IL
May 17, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of HPS partner Amy Kane, a beloved friend and member of our professional family. Amy’s knowledge, legal skill and trial expertise made her a formidable attorney, but those traits paled in comparison to her kindness, empathy, and generosity of spirit. Amy brought all of this – mixed with humor – to everything she did, making her a joy to work with. Her loss is devastating to all of us.
Amy joined HPS in 2015, already well established as a defense attorney. She graduated from DePaul University College of Law in 1991, the same year she married her husband, John. She practiced at several firms before moving to HPS—Pretzel & Stouffer, Lord Bissell and Brook (now Locke Lord) and Anderson Rasor & Partners. Her practice focused on the defense of hospitals and healthcare providers, securing numerous “not guilty” verdicts on behalf of clients in high-exposure cases. She was consistently recognized as both a Leading Lawyer and Super Lawyer by her peers. Amy enjoyed the respect and loyalty of her clients, deeply rooted in their appreciation of who she was and in her excellence as an attorney.
Amy cultivated strong, warm relationships with nearly everyone she encountered – her HPS family, clients, and members of the plaintiff’s bar. She was a trusted counselor and dedicated mentor to younger attorneys and a strong ally to her fellow members of the defense bar. Amy brought her grace and kindness to everything she did at HPS and in the legal community.
Amy battled her illness privately while at the same time focusing relentlessly on her work and, above all else, her family. At HPS, we will always remember Amy as a woman of amazing courage and dedication.
Amy will be dearly missed by John, her husband of three decades, and their three children, as well as all of us. We will continue to celebrate the life and legacy of a dear friend and partner, who exemplified our firm’s every ideal.
