Four HPS Attorneys Named "Rising Stars" by Illinois Super Lawyers for 2019

Sabina Babel, Ana Cazacu, Richard De Jong and John Travis have been named “Rising Stars” by Illinois Super Lawyers for 2019. Super Lawyers is a rating service that determines outstanding lawyers through a multi-faceted review process, including independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. To be eligible for inclusion in Rising Stars, a candidate must be either 40 years old or younger or in practice for 10 years or less. No more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state are named to Rising Stars.

About Our Attorneys

Sabina Babel concentrates her practice on the defense of hospitals, medical professionals, and other healthcare providers against medical negligence and premises liability claims. She has extensive practice in the defense of claims involving traumatic birth injury, pediatrics, failure to diagnose, and other complex litigation matters, which often result in significant catastrophic injuries and neurological complications. Sabina has been involved in all aspects of the litigation process, from pre-suit investigations and analysis, up to and including post-trial motions and appeals. She has second chaired numerous trials to verdict. In 2017, Sabina was recognized as one of the “Forty Under 40” Illinois Attorneys to Watch by Law Bulletin Publishing Company, publishers of Chicago Lawyer magazine and the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin (CDLB).

Ana Cazacu concentrates her practice in the defense of hospitals, medical professionals and other health care providers against medical negligence claims. She is also a member of the HPS employment practice group. In addition, during law school Ana was an assistant for the Herzog Appellate Competition and one of the founders of the American Romanian Bar Association where she currently serves on the Board of Directors.During law school, Ana was an assistant for the Herzog Appellate Competition and one of the founders of t he American Romanian Bar Association where she currently serves on the Board of Directors. 

Richard De Jong concentrates his practice in the defense of hospitals, medical professionals and other health care providers against medical negligence claims. Richard has significant experience working on highly technical medical malpractice cases with extraordinary claims for damages. Before joining HPS, Richard spent two years practicing at a firm that specialized in medical malpractice, personal injury, and catastrophic loss.

John Travis focuses his practice on all aspects of defense litigation with a particular concentration on the healthcare industry. His broad experience extends from medical malpractice to transportation and coverage litigation. He has defended cases from the early investigation phase all the way through jury trial.
