HPS Attorneys Laura Ginett and Elizabeth Neidig successfully defended a Chicago-area anesthesiologist against allegations of negligence related to his administration of a supraclavicular nerve block and pre-operative sedation.  Plaintiff alleged the care provided to the decedent related to the block caused her cardiopulmonary arrest and subsequent death.

The anesthesiologist maintained that he fully complied with the standard of care, that the medications administered were reasonable and appropriate, and that the care was not the cause of the decedent’s cardiopulmonary arrest or subsequent death. Instead, the decedent’s significant pre-existing comorbidities led to her unavoidable cardiopulmonary arrest and subsequent death.

Plaintiff asked the jury to award $2.4 million in damages. The jury deliberated for approximately 45 minutes before returning a verdict in favor of the anesthesiologist.
