Congratulations to Associate Maiya Roddick-Fuller who just won her first solo trial as a first-year associate! Maiya prevailed before the Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, in a small claims case. She delivered an opening statement, examined a witness, and presented a persuasive closing argument, ultimately convincing the judge to rule in her favor. Experienced trial attorney and HPS Partner Jennifer Ries was there to support and prepare Maiya.
This case involved a female patient undergoing infertility treatments, who alleged that inappropriate protocols for medication had negatively impacted her fertility outcomes. The defense contended that the protocols were within the standard of care and that the plaintiff's response to treatment was influenced by factors such as her age, which she had been advised could affect the results.
