BIOGRAPHY

Jacob Goldstein is co-chair of HPS’ appellate practice, serving as lead counsel in the majority of the firm’s federal appellate cases, as well as those tried in Illinois, Colorado, Florida, Utah, Nevada, California and other states. Under Goldstein’s leadership, HPS’ appellate practice earned a national Tier 1 ranking from U.S. News and World Report in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Jake has been recognized an Illinois Super Lawyer for five consecutive years (2018 - 2022), and in 2016 was included in the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin’s “Forty Under 40” list of top young attorneys. He has represented both public and private companies in cases ranging from commercial, employment and healthcare litigation to professional liability.

The diversity of Jake’s practice means he is at home in cases when there is an abundance of legal precedent as well as when there is relatively little established case law. He finds the latter circumstance to be especially fulfilling because it provides an opportunity to contribute to the development of legal precedent in courts across the country.

Jake joined HPS as an associate after finishing law school in 2006. He was mentored by Hugh Griffin, founder of HPS’ appellate practice, before ascending to partner in 2015 and joining Griffin as practice co-chair in 2018. As Goldstein’s career has progressed, he has become an active mentor himself, leading numerous seminars for HPS’ associate training and development program, as well as serving as an adjunct professor of appellate legal writing and advocacy at Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
