Sapna Lalmalani Recognized as one of 2019's 40 Under 40 Attorneys in Illinois

Sapna Lalmalani, a partner at Hall Prangle and Schoonveld LLC (HPS), received the 40 under 40 award from the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin (CDLB) and Chicago Lawyer (CL) at their annual awards dinner on September 19, 2019. CDLB and CL chose the honorees out of close to 1,000 attorneys who were nominated by their peers in Chicago and Illinois.

"It is a recognition by the legal community of the accomplishments of such a young lawyer," said Marilee Clausing, HPS's Managing Partner.

Ms. Lalmalani came to HPS in 2015, with a group of 10 attorneys and additional support staff. She became a partner in 2016. Since then, she has focused her practice on healthcare litigation and professional liability, defending hospitals and healthcare providers in cases involving claims of medical negligence and often catastrophic injuries.

"I wish we had more like her," David Hall, one of HPS's founding partners, said. "I am not surprised that she earned this award, having seen her in action for multiple trials. She is very bright, poised under stress, and provides the passionate defense that all HPS clients deserve."

Ms. Lalmalani earned her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her J.D., graduating cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law. She has been named an Emerging Lawyer by Leading Lawyers every year since 2015 and was named an Illinois Rising Star for six consecutive years by Super Lawyers.

With other HPS attorneys, Ms. Lalmalani has successfully defended clients through all stages of litigation. She has taken multiple cases to trial and obtained not guilty verdicts on behalf of her clients in cases where plaintiffs sought millions in damages for injuries ranging from severe neurological damage to death.

"Sapna is pure excellence," said Ms. Clausing, who recently tried a birth injury case with Ms. Lalmalani, which resulted in a not guilty verdict for two doctors and their hospital. "There is nothing she can't do when she puts her mind it."
