HPS Attorneys Recognized by Super Lawyers

Chicago
January 25, 2024

Fourteen Attorneys at Hall, Prangle and Schoonveld LLC have been recognized as 2024 Super Lawyers or 2024 Rising Stars. Super Lawyers, which is owned by Thomson Reuters, is a national organization that ranks attorneys based on peer nominations that are then reviewed by an independent research team.

The eleven attorneys recognized as Super Lawyers include a cross-section of the firm’s talent. David Hall, Ben Patterson, and Eric Schoonveld are three of the firm’s original partners and have tried high-exposure cases in multiple states across the country. Marilee Clausing is the Firm’s Managing Partner and focuses much of her practice on cases involving obstetrical and neonatal negligence. Like the others, she too has taken numerous high exposure cases to verdict, predominantly in Cook County, Illinois, which is one of the most challenging jurisdictions in the country. Laura Ginett is a leader of the firm, serving on the Executive Committee and Business Development & Strategy Committee, and chairing the Finance Committee. She also leads the Long-Term Care practice group. Michele Anderson is an experienced litigator defending many area hospitals and healthcare providers against claims of negligence, and has particular experience in matters relating to obstetrics, nursing and birth trauma. Michele speaks frequently on legal issues affecting medical negligence. Jennifer Ries-Buntain is a senior lawyer in the firm and has tried cases in state and federal courts across the country, serving as a go-to resource for her clients, many of whom are multi-facility healthcare organizations. She is recognized nationally for her expertise in fertility law and has defended both private parties and governmental entities in matters involving negligence, insurance coverage, product liability, premises liability, battery, defamation, and breach of confidentiality. Hugh Griffin and Jacob Goldstein lead our Appellate practice group and have argued hundreds of appeals in jurisdictions across the county, including eleven state supreme courts. Sabina Babel and Sapna Lalmalani are two of HPS’ most impressive young partners who have established their excellence in handling medical negligence cases from inception through trial, and who have themselves been the lead trial attorney of significant damage cases.

The three HPS attorneys recognized as Rising Stars have assisted on some of the firm’s most high-profile cases. Gina Ambrose has been with HPS since 2017 and, in that time, has built a practice defending healthcare clients against claims of medical negligence, nursing home negligence, and premises liability. Matt Kaminski was a member of the Labor & Employment Unit of the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office before joining HPS in 2017. David Kalimuthu joined HPS in 2020 coming from another Chicago area defense firm. His practice is focused on defending hospitals, medical professionals, and other healthcare facilities against claims of medical malpractice. David also has defended employers and insurance carriers against workplace and personal injury claims. All three of HPS’ Rising Stars have significant trial experience on high-stakes cases.
